Pakistan’s First transgender Passport For Saving Rights

Transgender is an important part of our society and wants a reasonable space in the community. But they are facing problems to find suitable space in the developed region. This is the first time in history that Farzana Jan carries a passport without gender identification.

Pakistan’s first transgender passport is received by Farzana Jan and able to impose own identification rather than male/female.  The transgender community is working with country’s legal system to recognize gender on basis of self-identification.

President of TransAction Union:

Farzana Jan, citizen of Peshawar is working for transgender community. Pakistani people used ‘khawajasiras’ umbrella term for calling third sex people including transvestites and eunuchs.

  • Farzana added that Earlier I received the passport with gender identification of male. But this time I told the authorities to change the gender identification of my passport.
  • The co-founder applied for the urgent passport but it took six months to receive the designated passport. The authorities added that they are unable to identify the third gender due to the national database of the system. It took six months to insert the column for ‘X’ gender.
  • Farzana added that ‘I am happy with the first transgender passport as I got it with self-identification. This passport claims that I am a human being and Nadra finally added the column for transgender.
  • I am happy with the Directorate General of Immigration for recognizing me other than male or female’.

It is the biggest milestone for Pakistan to issue first transgender passport and now they will get a separate column. Previously, transgender face different circumstances in the nation. Transgender issued with the third column in CNIC following decision of Supreme Court in 2011.
