Police have arrested a former member of the moon-sighting committee Mufti Abdul Qavi on Wednesday. Mufti already requests a court to extend the bail in a case related to the murder of social media celebrity. But a court has rejected his pre-bail and police has arrested him on the highway from Multan to Jhang. Mufti appeared in the court for the first time in connection with the murder case.
Why is Mufti facing court session?
Mufti is facing the court session in the case of Qandeel Baloch murder. The self-proclaimed actress was strangled by her brother and a cousin in the name of honor in July last year. Waseem, his brother already confessed to his crime before police and media.
The police include Qavi’s name in the case of the request of Qandeel’s father, Muhammad Azeem. He claims there is a possible role of Mufti in the murder of her daughter. The fact is that this murder took place just after weeks when Qandeel posted picture with Qavi on social media.
What happened on the court?
Last week, a judicial magistrate, Pervaiz Khan aware the court that cleric was not cooperating with the police. The court had issued the non-bail able warrant for the arrest of Mufti Qavi. However, the counsel for Qavi had file pre-arrest bail and Ameer Khan granted him bail against a surety.
But now judges rejected to extend the pre-bail of Mufti after lawyers, representing both the parties. However, before judge announce his decision the group of lawyer help Qavi to escape from the court.
Qavi was present in the court before the decision and later police tracked him through his mobile phone. He is trying to escape but taken into custody on Multan-Jhang highway.
The judge remarked that proceedings against Qavi would be carried out under section 302 and 109. Later, government person is dismissed for poor investigation and favoring Qavi helping him flees. The CPO also ordered to file FIR against Akbar as well as his arrest.
Is Qavi changed his heart?
Mufti Qavi added that he is presenting himself in the court according to dates and accept every decision of judiciary. Qavi’s lawyer added Mufti is not running away from the court but to attend a funeral. The fact is that Mufti Qavi escaped from the location without even talking to the reporters.
