Thanks to a government as Lahore Orange Line Metro Train project has resumed after 22 months. A long delay of 22 months has just destroyed the business of people associated with OLMT. The fact is that conditions of road and customers are facing trouble to reach a destination.
The OLMT project has halted when Supreme Court observed that it destroyed many historic places. These places include Shalimar Gardens, Buddhu ka Awa, Charburji, Zebunissha Tomb and Lakshami.
But now the project has continued but still causes a problem to people. Authorities have decided to close Lahore’s Mall road for next 3 months.
Project contractor Shahid Saleem speaking towards OLMT:
- The Supreme Court has finally allowed project construction in a critical section. They have advised some precautions towards development project. The package-1 of OLMT is most critical section covers from Dera Gujjran to Charburji.
- Project’s contractor Shahid Saleem speaks to media and aware with a current situation. He added work will continue towards heritage sites where work is closed due to litigation. We will continue our work according to precautions given by Supreme Court.
- He said that we add scaffolding to support the historical sites. The company is also installing metal sheets and green shade cloth on historical buildings to preserve them.
- It is such a great project and will make our city beautiful as well. He said utility companies like LESCO, Sui Northern Gas, PTCL, and WASA started their work. The companies are working to relocate underground pipelines and cabling infrastructure.
- Heavy machinery has already reached the destination. There is only waiting for utilities to relocate and company will start construction work on the three-story underground station.
Authorities have decided to close Lahore’s Mall road for next 3 months.
- Shahid Saleem added that Lahore’s Mall road is to close from Monday. But later city traffic police added there is a need to carpet alternative roads before closing down. WASA has already completed their sewerage works in the area and most alternative roads have big potholes.
- However, one Mall road is going to close from Monday. The traffic from Regal Chowk is sent towards Fane road and then they move towards lower mall road.
- Traffic from lower mall road is diverted towards Napier Road and re-enter mall road after high court. This system will remain to continue for the next 3 months.
This is really a great project but requires plenty of time to complete. Saleem added it is difficult to say how much utility companies require time to complete their tasks. It will be unveiled after digging.
