India Wants Islamic Preacher Zakir Naik To Charge Under Terror Laws

Who else don’t know about Islamic preacher Dr. Zakir Naik? The person has 16 million followers on Facebook whereas 150,000 on Twitter also. He already has given more than 4000 lectures on Islam in the world.  Zakir Naik is the person of honor but Islamic preacher is now wanted by Indian authorities.

Why Indian departments want him?

  • Problems arose for the Islamic preacher last summer when one gunman is arrested in Bangladesh. The gunmen responsible for an attack on Dhaka café had been inspired by Zakir.
  • After that event, Bangladesh banned the Peace TV broadcast. This channel is broadcasted from Dubai and founded in 2006 and now it has 100 million people worldwide.
  • Indian National Investigation Agency (NIC) submitted the report to the Minister of Home Affairs. They wanted Zakir Naik under the country’s unlawful activities prevention act (UAPA).

The authorities believed that Islamic preacher’s NGO known as Islamic Research Foundation (IRF) is the part of terrorism. This NGO evokes several fomenting religious conflict and radicalizing Indian youth. The report also tells that Zakir has direct links with the Indian Mujahideen group and member of them. Several IS workers are already arrested from the region.

Islamic preacher Dr. Zakir Naik never returned to India after the report issued from Bangladesh. The Bangladeshi newspaper reported his role in inspiring the terrorists. But the Indian’s agency believes that he is promoting religious hatred and unlawful activities.

What is the response from Indian government?

  • The Indian government responded by imposing a five-year ban on the IRF under the country’s anti-terror law. But the Naik’s lawyer will challenge the ban before an appropriate court. He added that we will challenge this decision as this ban was illegal, unwarranted and unjustified.
  • The fact is that this research foundation banned due to the case of money laundering. The investigation department accused IRF with money-laundering and closes its all properties in Mumbai.
  • But the lawyer added that all the funds are transferred with the help of the bank. All the transactions are legal and no money is used for illegal activities.

Where is Zakir Naik now?

  • He never returned to India since last July. But he gave some interviews and press conference via Skype from Saudi Arabia. The rumors tell that Saudi granted him citizenship but no official information is available yet.
  • Zakir wants to make video conference and answer the question to Indian police department. But Indian refused and approached the Interpol police to arrest Zakir and return to India.

Zakir wrote an open letter:

When the charges filed against Zakir Naik in September, he wrote an open letter. He added that this attack is not only for me but for the Indian Muslims. It’s an attack against peace, democracy, and justice.

Zakir writes that before the investigation done, even before report submitted, the ban was already decided. It proves that decision for a ban is already taken months ago. What matters is my work of 25 years and it is completely lawful and has banned now. And that is the most unfortunate thing for this country.
