The Federal Investigation Agency (FIA) has arrested a man for allegedly blackmailing a woman by posting her pictures on Facebook fake profile.
According to the FIA officials, the accused, Sheikh Tauqeer Ahmed created a fake Facebook profile of a woman and posted explicit images, the suspect then blackmailed the woman and demanded PKR 200,000 as extortion amount for removing the images.
The woman and her family filed a complaint against the accused with the FIA’s cybercrime wing and an inquiry was launched subsequently.
The cyber wing which is designated to investigate the cybercrimes under the Prevention of Electronic Crimes Act (PECA) 2016, traced and arrested the accused on November 9. He was arrested for cyber-stalking and spoofing under the PECA.
He was initially brought into the FIA custody for two days on November 10. FIA officials produced the accused before the magistrate on Saturday. The sub-inspector Fazal Maabood, who is investigating the case, told the court that they have recovered the email and password of the fake Facebook account which was used by the accused to create the account. However they didn’t yet recover the money he had extorted.
The recently enacted Cyber Crime Bill was approved by the National Assembly few months ago. It remains controversial but Senate adopted and approved this act. The first accused of the Cyber Crime Bill was arrested in KPK in August this year.
