Everything That Goes Through A Pakistani Feminist’s Head When She’s Invited To A Shaadi

Shaadi in Pakistan is a super festive occasion, but sometimes, probably, only for those who are getting married. The rest of us just attend all these weddings either for roti or to look for potential brides/grooms for ourselves by expanding our rishta networking skills.

Here are all the thoughts that go through almost every Pakistani girls’ head while getting ready for a wedding:

1. “I am finally going to be able to wear my new Asifa Nabeel copy jora that I spent so much money on.”

2.  “But should I be wearing such fancy clothes? What if the qorma ruins my brand new clothes?”

3.  “Maybe I should wear that Khaadi Khaas dress instead, it’s not AS fancy.”

4. “But what if one of the dulha‘s friends is hot and rich? Gotta look pretty for that.”

5. “I am a strong independent woman who doesn’t need to “attract” men with her looks.”

6. “But I CAN look pretty for myself so I’ll just wear my new Kylie lipkit because I like it.”

7. “Tyar tou main apne liye hee hon gee lekin ho sakta hai kisi ko pasand hee ajaun?

8. ” Acha heels or no heels? Chalna ata nai hai mujhe, don’t wanna look like a penguin in front of all the cute boys.”

9. “Okay stop with all the cute boy thoughts. You are not going to wear heels because you won’t be able to dance properly. Haaaaaann, that’s a better justification.”

10. “But I don’t even know how to dance elegantly and… that Arslan during the dance practices really checked me out… here comes the cute boys thoughts again…”

11. “Maybe I should just make an excuse and don’t go altogether.”

12. “But when else am I ever going to use all this fancy make-up that I have bought?”
