“NO ONE EATS ALONE ON CHRISTMAS DAY. WE ARE HERE TO SIT WITH YOU.”
Muslim restaurant owner is offering free Christmas dinner to the people. The holidays can be equally frustrating and beautiful, depending on who you spend your time with. But what if you don’t have anyone? Joyous music playing in your ears, and watching families with their loved ones can be a painful experience for those who are left alone, like the homeless and elderly.
THANKS TO ONE MUSLIM-OWNED RESTAURANT IN LONDON, THOSE FOLKS WILL HAVE A THREE-COURSE MEAL ON CHRISTMAS DAY SO THAT “NO ONE EATS ALONE.”
Shish Restaurant, a Turkish eatery located in the city’s southeast side, has sent out local flyers, posted signs in the area, and even started a full campaign on social media to spread the word about this event.
The signs feature the menu for the free meal, as well as a few words meant to inspire hope, comfort, and kindness:
“NO ONE EATS ALONE ON CHRISTMAS DAY. WE ARE HERE TO SIT WITH YOU.”
And the dinner? It’s available from 12 pm to 6 pm on Christmas Day and sounds amazing. Starters of soup and cacik (a yogurt-based dip), the main meal is a choice of chicken or vegetarian casserole or chicken shish, and rice pudding as dessert.
The response from the local and online community has been one of universal support and enthusiasm.
“JUST SEEN THE OFFER YOU’VE MADE FOR CHRISTMAS MEAL FOR THE HOMELESS AND ELDERLY. WHAT AN AMAZING THING TO DO,” WROTE MIKE CLARKE ON SHISH’S FACEBOOK PAGE.Joining Mike in the positive Facebook comments were Vicky Lanfear and Suzannah Harris.
Vicky wrote, “This is the most selfless gesture I have ever seen and they should be recognized as a pillar of the community.”
