6 Things You Should Never Buy in January

If you have any cash left after the holidays, you might be tempted to go back to the store and do some shopping for the New Year. Many stores host beginning-of-the-year sales for shoppers who are ready for another round of shopping. However, some of these sales may not yield the best deals. If you wait a little longer you may actually save more of your hard-earned cash. Here are six items you should never buy in January.

1. Televisions
The right (or wrong) television can greatly affect your viewing experience. You’re tired of squinting to see the picture on your old television, so you’re seriously considering replacing it with something larger and more modern. If you want to get the best deal on a television, don’t shop for one in January. When it comes to a shockingly low price, you’ll snag the best offer in November on Black Friday. However, when it comes to both quality and price, you’ll be rewarded when you shop during the weeks leading up to the Super Bowl, according to Consumer Reports.

2. Clothing

While stores do feature clothing sales in January, the selection is usually poor. All you’re getting is leftovers from the holiday. Many of the deals have already been offered two months prior, so you may not find the best items. You can get a better selection and great discounts on clothing starting on Black Friday in November and then through the Christmas holiday. After a brief lull, you’ll start to see decent apparel sales ramp up again in February for President’s Day. So you’re better off either doing your clothing shopping in November and December or saving up those dollars in January so that you can take advantage of the sales the following month. However, if you’re in the market for outerwear, January is your month.

3. Mattresses

Are the lumps in your mattress keeping you awake at night? If you can put off your mattress purchase for one more month, you can save a lot of money. Last February, there were discounts of up to 50% at US-Mattress and up to 60% off at Sears, according to the experts at Deal News. However, if you need bed linens and sheets, you can enjoy reduced prices on sheets and blankets in January.

4. Luggage

Wait until March for all of your luggage needs. During the month of March, major retailers such as Sears and Macy’s mark down their luggage right before the warmer weather arrives. Many stores are eager to make room for newer luggage styles in preparation for the summer travel season, so you can catch a good deal on the previous year’s luggage options.

5. Video games

The latest video games come out around the holidays, just in time for holiday gift giving. If you wait until March to pick up these little gems, you will be able to score discounted accessories, video games, and systems. If you’re a die-hard gamer, also look into joining Best Buy’s Gamers Club for additional savings.

6. Automotive items

our best bet is to wait until April for any car-related purchases. Your patience will pay off because April is National Car Care Month. Auto dealers offer deals on accessories, car parts, and services. And if you need car-care during this time, you’re in luck. Some businesses host free car-care events throughout the month of April. In addition, you can get a free vehicle inspection at some businesses.
