10 Tips to Spend a Happy Successful Life

1. Smile More Often

Smiling more is a simple way to greatly improve the quality of your life. All you have to do is smile, and life will be better, Really. It’s that simple. Smiling is the natural way to force yourself to be happy. Many people even smile for five minutes straight in the morning to get themselves in a great mood for the day. It is a very powerful tool that is utilized less and less as we grow older and need happiness more than ever. Just remember that while happiness leads to smiles, smiles also lead to happiness. Researchers think that by forcing a smile, you activate a specific set of muscles in the face. That set of muscles is closely connected to the emotions of happiness and joy. By smiling, you are signaling the emotional centers of your brain to tell them that everything is good.

2. Don’t Take Life So Seriously!

Don’t take life too seriously. You’ll never get out of it alive. Life is serious and taking it too seriously robs you of happiness, fun, and productivity. A solemn outlook increases stress, squanders creativity and innovation, and stifles progress. Learn to laugh at the little things and this whole “existence” thing will be a whole lot easier. Be amused by your mistakes and failures and be thankful that you learned your lesson and won’t mess up like that again. And most importantly do things that you enjoy! Smile. Laugh. Skip, hop, and run. Do something you truly love and have fun doing it! Life is not strictly business, it can be mixed with pleasure.

3. Think Positive Thoughts

It is quite common to hear people say: “Think positive!”, to someone who feels down and worried. Most people do not take these words seriously, as they do not know what they really mean, or do not consider them useful and effective.
Having negative thoughts play out like a movie can only bring you pain. Negative thoughts drain you of energy and keep you from being in the present moment. The more you give in to your negative thoughts, the stronger they become. Slap yourself in the face, yell something positive at the top of your lungs or jump up and down. Do whatever it takes to get back to a positive mindset as such is essential for continual happiness and success.

4. Develop The Ability to Forgive

The ability to forgive is a mental, emotional, and/or spiritual process of releasing resentment, anger, or ill feelings you have toward another person. Forgiveness is something that most people fail miserably at even though it’s so simple. Grudges only bring more misery to those who hold them and prevent good relations with the target. You make mistakes all of the time so why not have mercy when other do? Remaining angry feels horrible while forgiving someone brings a refreshing sensation to the mind and healing to the relationship. “If we really want to love we must learn how to forgive.”

5. Learn to Control Your Emotions

Life is complicated and people are even more so. The chances are that at some point, we are faced with some difficult and emotionally challenging situations involving loss, conflict or rejection. These stresses (all too common in this ongoing economy) can often cause us to feel anxious or a bit down. If you don’t have the emotional skills to understand and manage these feelings, and this cycle goes on long enough, it can lead to feeling depressed or out of control, causing major problems in everyday life. The only person that can make you unhappy is you! You are the one that decides to be affected by the words and actions of others. Realize this so that the next time you experience a negative emotion, you can find the strength within yourself to overcome it.
